How these rates are calculated
- Standard rate: midpoint of the typical residential tariff range for each state (AEMC 2025; GlobalPetrolPrices June 2025).
- Off-peak / controlled load: typical overnight controlled-load rate where available. Not all retailers or states offer this tariff structure.
- EV plan overnight: based on AGL, Origin, and Amber Electric EV-specific overnight rates as at March 2026. WA and NT have limited retailer competition — fewer EV plan options available.
- Solar surplus: the effective cost is your state's feed-in tariff rate — that's the revenue you forgo by using surplus solar to charge rather than exporting it. Assumes a CT-clamp solar-aware charger (e.g. Zappi, Ocular IQ).
- Assumes 100% home charging. Public DC fast chargers cost 40–73 c/kWh — significantly more.
